Otis Redding co wrote the song and had the first recording originally released after his death in 1967 it reached #38 on the Billboard R&B charts and #51 on the pop charts.

Many artist have covered the song including Grateful Dead. New Riders of the Purple Sage,, Tom Jones, Harpers Bizarre and Gov't Mule.

The Black Crowes had the biggest success as their breakout hit in 1990, it appeared on their debut album “Shake Your Money Maker” and reached #26 on the Billboard Hot 100.
