A Cortland County man is accused of driving drunk when his speeding pickup truck crashed into an earth embankment and rolled onto its roof on Route 215 in the Town of Cortlandville June 10.

Sheriff’s officials say 23 year old Nicholas Cowen of Cortland suffered non-life threatening injuries in the 3 p.m. crash that closed the road between Bennie road and Starr Road for about an hour.

Deputies say Cowen was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the truck, going off the road and hitting an earth embankment before rolling over and coming to rest on its roof in the roadway.

Cowen is charged with driving while intoxicated, unsafe speed and driving across hazard markings.

He was ordered to appear in Town of Cortlandville Court later this month.
