Several local events were scheduled in the Southern Tier to commemorate the Doctor Martin Luther King Junior national holiday.

In the City of Binghamton, speeches, dance and musical performances were scheduled to be held in the City Hall 2nd Floor Art gallery starting at 2 p.m. January 19.

An evening program was planned to start at 6 with a march from the MLK Statue at the Peacemaker Stage at the Court Street Bridge to the Salvation Temple Church on Main Street.

The Food Bank of the Southern Tier was marking the day with an invitation to the public to volunteer to sort and repackage bulk food so it can be distributed in the region.
