New York State Police, County and municipal law enforcement agencies and the State Police in Pennsylvania are all on alert for people not wearing seat belts while hitting the roads and highways for the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend.

Authorities are setting up additional check points and increasing patrols looking for people in violation of the seat belt laws as well as motorists who are driving while drunk, drugged or distracted.

New York State Police say crash data indicates about one third of all motor vehicle occupants killed on highways are unrestrained.

The “Click it or Ticket” campaign runs through June 3rd.
