A long, long time ago, back in 1978 (at least that's what kids today would call the year), the song 'Sultans Of Swing' was released.

It was the first single for Mark Knopfler and crew on a big label. Unfortunately it didn't take off and become a hit until the following year as a re-release to the UK and US. Once the British radio stations started playing the song, it became popular. It was the first single from the album 'Dire Straits.'

The song got as high at number 8 on the UK singles chart and number 4 on the US singles chart. Have you noticed like I have, that some British bands have had more success in the US than in their home country? Is that a bit weird?

For your Classic rock Two For Tuesday, enjoy the Dire Straits performing 'Sultans Of Swing' followed by a great version of 'Money For Nothing' featuring Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Sting and Phil Collins.
