The Whale Time Machine is set to travel back to September 10th, 1988.

That's when Guns-N' Roses scored a number one hit on the US singles chart with Sweet Child O' Mine from their debut album 'Appetite For Destruction.' In the United Kingdom, it didn't fair quite as well, peaking at 24 on the singles chart. The tune quickly rose up the charts having only been released on August 17th, 1988.

In the US, the song spent 2 weeks atop the chart, and was the only number one song for Guns-N'-Roses. Sweet Child O' Mine features an awesome guitar solo from Slash, one of the best ever in my opinion, and has sold well over two and a half million copies since 1988.

For our Classic Rock Throwback Thursday, let's take a look at Guns-N'-Roses performing Sweet Child O' Mine live at the Ritz in 1988.
