This week's Whale Classic Rock time machine is set for August 13th, 1972. Hop in and let's go.

That date is important to Lynyrd Skynyrd fans because is was on that day when the band released 'Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd.' This was the debut album for the guys. The album features some great tunes, including 'Tuesday's Gone', 'Gimme Three Steps', 'Simple Man' and 'Free Bird.'

To have that lineup today would be awesome. Ronnie Van Zant,  Gary Rossington, Ed King, Bob Burns, Billy Powell, Ed King and Leon Wilkenson, who by the way, left the band before the recording sessions were completed, He played on only 2 songs.

The album got as high as number 27 on the U.S. album chart and was certified 2 times platinum in 1987. Let's sit back and enjoy Lynyrd Skynyrd performing 'Free Bird' in concert at the Oakland Coliseum Stadium on July 2nd 1977 for this week's Classic Rock Throwback Thursday.
