Hop inside the Whale's time machine. This week, I've set the date to July 2nd, 1981, Destination is East Rutherford, New Jersey.

It was on this day in 1981 that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band opened up a six night residency at the brand new Brendan Byrne Arena. A bit of history on that venue - it's named after Brendan Thomas Byrne, who was the governor of New Jersey from 1974 to 1982. It's been the home to professional hockey, basketball and so many great concerts. It went by other names, such as the Continental Airlines Arena, Meadowlands Arena and Izod Center.

The arena is now dormant, and will remain that way for the next 2 years, with the possibility of be demolished. Anyway, back to the beginning and Bruce Springsteen, take a listen to The Boss and the E Street Band performing 'Johnny Bye Bye' during that 6 night as the first to open up the new  Brendan Byrne Arena in July of  1981.
