January 22,1972, Don McLean's album 'American Pie', took over the number one spot on the U.S. Charts. It stayed there for seven weeks.

The album was released in the Fall of 1971, and contained one of America's best songs - "American Pie.' Don dedicated the album to Buddy Holly, who along with 'The Big Bopper'and Ritchie Valens, perished in a plane crash February 3rd, 1959. Only one other tune became a hot off the album - 'Vincent.'
