In 1975, a rock group formed, consisting of 5 young ladies.

That group became to be known as The Runaways. The band came together through the efforts of Joan Jett and Sandy West. Kim Fowley was responsible for getting the two future stars together. Rounding out the original band, were Lita Ford, Jackie Fox and Cherie Currie. Later members included Micki Steele, Peggy Foster, Laurie McAllister and Vicki Blue.

While the band had moderate success in the US, they were very popular in Japan. They are most noted for the song Cherry Bomb. The group remained together through 5 albums and 4 years, disbanding in 1979. All went on to other bands and various forms of success, with Lita Ford and Joan Jett finding more success than the others.

In 2010, a biographical film about The Runaways was released to theaters with Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning starring in the movie. For today's Classic Rock Pick, enjoy The Runaways performing Cherry Bomb at a 1977 concert in Japan.
