1967 was the Summer of Love, at least in the Haight-Ashbury section of San Francisco, California. The hippies and flower children gathered together that Summer to do their thing.

It was reported that around 100,000 people crowded the neighborhood of Haight-Ashbury over that Summer

Music in the Summer of 1967 included hits from The Doors, The Monkees, The Beatles, Procol Harum, Buffalo Springfield, The Young Rascals, Tommy James and Jefferson Airplane. Grace Slick and the band had a huge hit with Somebody to Love, which cracked the Top 40 singles chart on this day in 1967. It rose as high as number 5.

It was reported that around 100,000 people crowded the neighborhood of Haight-Ashbury over that Summer, questioning authority, opposing the Vietnam War, experimenting with drugs, enjoying the music of the day and dabbling in the art world. If there was a phrase that best described that Summer, it would be Timothy Leary's line 'Turn on, tune in, drop out.'

For this week's Classic Rock Pick of the Week, let's turn on to Jefferson Airplane's Somebody to Love. As you watch the video taken from a 1967 performance on American Bandstand, try not to laugh at what was considered cool back then, just seems silly today, like turning the band upside down and the shots of the lava lamp. Also, where were the microphones (lip-syncing)  and were those guitars plugged in?
