The Concert for Peace occurred on this day in 1970 at Shea Stadium in New York City.
That day marked the 25th anniversary of the atomic bomb drop on Hiroshima, Japan.

Among the many performers were Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin Steppenwolf, Johnny Winter, The James Gang, Miles Davis and Paul Simon.
The organizers reason for the concert, were to raise funds for political and  anti-war purposes.

There was another concert that happened earlier in 1970 - The Winter Festival for Peace  at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Supposedly, no footage of the Summer concert publicly exists.
It would be cool to show you a video of one of their performances, instead, we'll settle for  a video of of of the performers -The James Gang - rocking to 'Walk Away' back in 1971.
