In 1970
Jim Morrison was found guilty of indecent exposure and profanity, but acquitted of "lewd and lascivious" behavior charges in Miami. (Was that why he was called the Lizard King?)

Peter Frampton quit Humble Pie to embark on a solo career.  (And we never heard from him ever again)

In 1973
Singer-songwriter Jim Croce died in a plane crash.  He was 30 years old.

David Bowie's "Fame" hit number one on the pop singles chart.
Bruce Springsteen released the single "Born To Run."
In 1983
Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and Steve Winwood were among the performers at The ARMS Benefit.  The concert raised money to support research for multiple sclerosis.  It was prompted by former Faces bassist Ronnie Lane, who had the disease.
In 1986
Huey Lewis and the News' "Stuck With You" hit number one on the pop singles chart.
In 1993
The Moody Blues gave the Hard Rock Cafe in Los Angeles a cassette copy of the album "Days of Future Past" that astronaut Robert "Hoot" Gibson had taken with him on a space shuttle flight.
In 1994
Bon Jovi released the single "Always." (Not Bon Scott??)
In 1995
Van Halen performed an outdoor concert in Denver, even though a storm had just blanketed the city with eleven inches of snow.
In 2001
The Black Crowe's kicked off a three night stand at New York's Beacon Theater, donating a portion of the ticket sales and all of the merchandising revenue to relief charities for the survivors and families of the victims of the World Trade Center attacks.

Taping of the TNT John Lennon tribute concert, which was supposed to happen on this day, was scrapped.  Organizers decided instead to air the concert live from New York's Radio City Music Hall 12 days later.

Melissa Etheridge married partner Tammy Lynn Michaels in a ceremony in California.
In 2005
A lengthy list of artists including Elton John, Simon & Garfunkel, Jimmy Buffett, Lenny Kravitz, John Fogerty, and Elvis Costello, took part in the hurricane relief benefit concerts "From The Big Apple To The Big Easy," which were staged at New York's Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall.
INXS chose singer J.D. Fortune to be the band's new frontman on the finale of the reality TV series "Rock Star: INXS."
Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page received honorary Rio de Janeiro citizenship in recognition of the charitable work he'd done in the Brazilian city.
In 2007
Roger Waters, Bon Jovi's Jon Bon Jovi, and John Mayer were among those who took part in the VH1 Save the Music Foundation 10th Anniversary Gala at Lincoln Center in New York.  Mariah Carey, former President Bill Clinton, and then-Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton were among those honored for their support.
The jury in Phil Spector's murder trial resumed deliberations after receiving new instructions from the judge.  The panel had announced a day earlier that they were deadlocked and wouldn't be able to come to a decision in the case.  The judge was hoping that by clarifying the rules the jury would be able to eventually render a verdict.
In 2010
Leonard Skinner -- the real-life gym teacher who inspired the band name Lynyrd Skynyrd -- died in his sleep at a nursing home in Jacksonville, Florida.  He was 77.
