Chenango Lake Perch Derby: Fishing and Wishing
The Oxford Lion’s Club annual Perch Derby was held last Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Chenango Lake, in North Norwich, and yours truly was there!
The derby offered a $1,000 prize, sponsored by NBT Bank, for the first perch caught with a 2013 tag.
There were more than a hundred perch tagged with this year's 2013 tag perch because that's the main reason everybody was there, If someone caught one of those tagged perch, it's a $1,000 prize.
Many perch were caught but none with the special tag, so the $1,000 donated by NBT Bank, was given away by drawing of registered anglers at the end of the derby.
And The lucky Anglers Are:
$500.00 – Thomas Rutledge (Hamilton, NY)
$250.00 – Jesse Williams (Waterville, NY)
$100.00 – P.A. Timperlake (Oxford, NY)
$75.00 - James Lamphere (Norwich (NY)
$50.00 - Ryan Tuttle (Sidney, NY)
$25.00 - Alan Mulwane (Afton, NY)
There were awards for the largest fish of the day, with each angler winning $150 each:
Largest Perch of the Day - Bert Beckwith (Buffalo, NY – 13 15/16” (Record Setter) – donated by Visions Federal Credit Union.
Largest Pickerel of the Day – Ryan Morse (Cincinnatus, NY) – 25½” – donated by Dr. Richard Polgar. I actually saw this fish and it was a beauty, AND ALL TEETH!
Mark February on your calendar for next year for the Chenango Lake Perch derby. And maybe I will join you, this time... as long as the beer holds out!
