Figures. The day finally comes where we are to celebrate 'National Brown Bag It' Day, and I didn't bring lunch to work. Cancel the celebration.

I don't know about you, but I bring lunch to work pretty much every day. Today is an exception. I ran out of bread. Yesterday, I had planned to stop by the store, but with the long weekend coming up, I figured I'd skip lunch on Friday.

My lunches have to the the most boring on the planet. Most days, it's a simple tuna fish sandwich, along with an unhealthy snack and dessert. Yea, I know. Not good. When I run out of tuna fish, the go to sandwich is crunchy peanut butter. Again, not a good choice, but whatever. And, I don't use a brown paper bag anymore. It's usually a plastic grocery store bag. Yes, I recycle it. Geez.

I've been a brown bag type of person since the first day of elementary school. My family couldn't afford money to purchase a school lunch, and that was fine. You have tasted school lunches, right? Especially in the 60s and 70s. Not so good. The school lunch scenes in the TV sitcom 'The Simpsons' remind me of those times.

And the smell. Remember the smell of the school cafeteria? I did not like it at all. Thank God for my brown bag lunch. Mine usually consisted of a bologna and mustard sandwich. Every. Single. Day. I can't remember what else was in my lunch, except for an apple. There must have been one other item. I will have to ask my Mom.

After high school, I never ate a bologna sandwich again. The streak continues. Happy National Brown Bag It Day. Enjoy whatever's in it.
