Johnson City will be hosting a special Carousel Day event this weekend at CFJ Park.

Organizers say village officials have worked with community partners to organize a series of activities at the park on Saturday.

The park's carousel will be at the center of the day-long celebration. The merry-go-round was donated to the community in 1923 by George F. Johnson.

Event organizers say the CFJ carousel is the largest of the six such rides in Broome County. It features 72 horses.

Carousel rides, Johnson decreed, will always be free. Children's carnival rides will be available on Saturday for a fee.

Music at the event will be provided by the Scott Freeman Band. There'll also be performances by a juggler, a musician and a ventriloquist.

Representatives of the Johnson City police and fire departments will be on hand for the event.
