Most of us downed corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's Day. After that, we pretty much forget about cabbage. But we shouldn't!

Cabbage is considered a "super food". The health benefits of the king of the cruciferous veggies far outweigh the flatulent one. (Other vegetables in this food group include brussel sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower.) For example, did you know that cabbage has several properties that fight cancer causing cells?

Here are some other benefits of eating cabbage (and it doesn't matter what color):

1. It boots immunity and acts as an anti-inflammatory.

2. It has lactic acid, which relieves sore muscles.

3. Is high in fiber

4. When used in a poultice, it heals skin.

5. It helps fend of Alzheimer's Disease and boost brain function.

All in all, cabbage is packed full of nutrients. More than I can list. I am not a fan of cabbage, but after learning all of the bennies, I am adding it to my food list. I bet if I slice it thin and add it to salad, I won't be able to tell it's even there.

As a little chuckle, here is a great example of the only downside to eating cabbage (or any cruciferous vegetable):
