BU Men’s Basketball Announces 2018 Recruiting Class

The Binghamton Bearcats men's basketball team has announced its 2018 recruiting class which includes eight newcomers. The Class of 2018 stretches from Binghamton (Seton Catholic Central star Leo Gallagher) to Helsinki, Finland (Michael Besselink) to Calvin Poulina from Leiden, in the Netherlands.  The Bearcats graduated seven last month and lose three-point shooter Farad Muhammad who has decided to transfer.

The new Bearcats feature additional size.  6-foot 9 forward Calistus Anyichie from Short Hills, New Jersey and St. Mary-Assumption High School and 6-foot 8 forward Calvin Poulina lead the way.

Freshman Sam Sessoms from Shipley High in Philadelphia was a first team all - state selection in Pa.  He averaged 28.8 points per game last season and scored 2,091 career points at Shipley.

Besselink comes in with big scoring credentials as well and played in the Finnish Division 1A  league last year.  Forward Chancellor Barnard will be a graduate student at Binghamton after playing three seasons for Loyola, Maryland. Robert Caldwell is a 6-foot 4 Junior College transfer who averaged 12.6 points per game at Lamar Community College.

Two familiar names will be Bearcats in the upcoming season.  Carter Stewart (brother of current Bearcat Caleb) and standout Seton Catholic guard Leo Gallagher who will stay in the community and compete at a guard spot for the Bearcats.  They were opponents in the March NYSPHSAA Class B Championship game at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena. Stewart's Mekeel Christian Academy went on to win the state crown 42-37 over the Saints.  Stewart was the MVP in that championship game.
