The Broome County district attorney says evidence in the Haley Anderson homicide investigation will be presented to a grand jury.

Stephen Cornwell released a statement Monday afternoon indicating his office will continue to work with Binghamton police and federal agencies.

Detectives said the body of the 22-year-old Binghamton University nursing school student was discovered early Friday afternoon in an apartment at 23 Oak Street on the West Side.

Investigators on Monday publicly named 22-year-old Orlando Tercero, who is also enrolled nursing student at the university, as a person of interest. They said Tercero took a flight to Nicaragua before Anderson's body was found.

In his statement, Cornwell said: "Though we cannot bring Haley Anderson back, we will fight for justice."

Cornwell said if an indictment is handed down in the case, a warrant will be filed. He said if necessary, the warrant will be presented to the U.S. State Department. Then, he said, there would be a "call on the Nicaraguan government to extradite the defendant back to Broome County."

Binghamton detectives have not publicly said whether they know where in Nicaragua Tercero may be staying.
