If you're a runner, then you know that there are two especially magical times of the day to lace up your sneakers and take a run: at sunrise and at sunset. There's something soul calming about running while watching the world either slip into morning time or slip into nighttime.

On Thursday, July 18th, the 2019 Sunset Runway 5K will take place at the Greater Binghamton Airport in Johnson City. You'll be able to run or walk on a certified 5k course on Runway 16/34 and Runway 10/28 while taking in a glorious sunset and supporting local veterans at the same time.

Registration for the 2019 Sunset Runway 5K will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Hangar II Chamberlin Room at the Greater Binghamton Airport with the race beginning between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., depending on what time the sunset is. There will also be music, and a food and beer tent.

Pre-registration is $20 per person and due by midnight on Thursday, July 11th. Registration will also be available the evening of the race (starting at 6:30 p.m.) for $25 per person. Those who pre-register will receive a Sunset Runway 5K t-shirt, running bib, official timing, and one free beverage. Those who register the day of the race will receive a Sunset Runaway 5K running bib, official timing, and one free beverage. T-shirts will be given to those who register the day of the event, while supplies last.

A portion of the proceeds from the 2019 Sunset Runway 5K will benefit the Twin Tiers Honor Flight. The mission of the Twin Tiers Honor Flight Network is to transport Southern Tier area veterans to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices. The Twin Tiers Honor Flight is a not-for-profit, fully-volunteer organization, a federally recognized 501 (c) (3) organization, and registered with the New York State Charities Bureau and with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Corporations and Charitable Organizations.

Since 2005, the Honor Flight Network has escorted more than 200,000 veterans to their memorials, free of charge to the veterans. The cost of just one Honor Flight can range from $45,000 to over $80,000 per trip and flights are made possible through community gifts and contributions. Additionally, the Twin Tiers Honor Flight has been awarded Platinum Level for transparency on Guidestar.org.
