The order was announced after a 24-inch water main ruptured on Tuesday evening.

Repairs to the broken line under Harrison Avenue were completed on Wednesday.

The water issue resulted in the cancellation of classes on Wednesday in the Union-Endicott and Maine-Endwell school districts.

Classes resumed on Thursday with school officials assuring parents that steps were in place to prevent people from drinking water while the boil order was in effect.

Village of Endicott officials said more than 30,000 residential and business customers were affected by the directive.

The Endicott water system serves customers in the village, as well as some sections of Endwell and West Corners.

Endicott officials had indicated the problem with the major water line could have been linked to a recent milling and paving operations on Harrison Avenue.
