Body Art and Piercings in the Workplace
I served in the United States Navy and never had the desire to get a tattoo, although many of my fellow sailors hit the parlor right after boot camp.
Today, body art and piercings are as common as the jeans you bought at the mall.
A recent article in Fortune magazine mentioned that many companies are becoming much more lenient on hiring people with tattoos and piercings.
I have been a manager of multiple radio stations and have conducted many interviews throughout the years with people of all ages.
I have only let one situation regarding body piercing influence my decision on hiring and I felt this person was just over the top with the amount or studs, hoops and such.
I think we all look at body art differently then in the days of our parents, or even as young adults.
The initial shock of the tattoo era is over and I think more employers will be looking at qualifications versus the tatts.
My wife has a tattoo but I am still a tattoo and piercing virgin, and probably will remain one.
Let’s face it, in another 30 years this country will be full of old wrinkling tattooed seniors.
