Once again we hop in the Whale Time Machine for another trip back in Classic Rock history.

Today, we are heading to February 11th, 1972 when I was a junior in high school, had long hair and wore bell bottom jeans. My friends and I had become big fans of Led Zeppelin, and it was on this day in '72 that Black Dog peaked at number 15 on the US singles chart.

The song is off their 4th album, and the title refers to a dog who was hanging around the studios where the boys in Led Zeppelin had been recording at that time. It's stories like this that are so interesting how a song title is created. It's simple, yet very powerful as Black Dog came to be.

Do you know what the 'B' side of the Black Dog single is? It's another Led Zeppelin classic - Misty Mountain Hop.
