Binghamton's Ross Park Zoo is open on weekends and preparing for the annual Eggstravaganza celebration April 15 & 16.

Speaking on the April 8 edition of the weekly, local public affairs program, The Southern Tier Close Up, zoo education coordinator Rachel Davenport talks about getting the zoo on Binghamton's South Side ready for the full season April 22 and the setback the facility suffered in its schedule with Winter Storm Stella that dropped 3 feet of snow on the region.

Davenport joked the zoo has to care for the keepers more than the animals since staff all had to get to the zoo to care for the animals in spite of the snow and the very steep terrain of the historic facility at Morgan Road and Park Avenue.

Daveport says they are hoping for a repeat of the good weather they had last year for Eggstravaganza that saw people lined up from the ticket booth back to the amphitheater.  This year, tickets can be purchased online at www.rossparkzoo.com.

Information on times, admission, membership and volunteer opportunities can also be found at the website.

Southern Tier Close Up is heard Sunday at 6 am on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
