Binghamton’s State Street to be Fixed
The City of Binghamton has big plans for hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal funding that it is being awarded.
Officials say $480,000 will be going to complete the first phase of the State S gateway Improvement Project.
That includes new pavement and striping, period-style LED lighting, bike lanes, cross walks and accessible curb modifications from Susquehanna Street to Hawley Street.
The award is the latest in a series of state and federal grant funds going to improve the City’s aging infrastructure.
Yesterday, the state announced $70 million in Federal Highway Administration Funds for bicycle, pedestrian and multi-use transportation projects across New York State..
Binghamton officials say the State Street project is expected to cost about $600,000. The City is covering the $120,000 dollars not covered by the federal grant.
The work should be completed in the fall of 2016.
