Empire State Development January 18 announced $30 million  in state funding to go toward the completion of the Health Sciences Campus nursing school building that is being relocated from the main Vestal campus across the Susquehanna River to a renovated Endicott Johnson box factory in Johnson City.

The money comes from the Upstate Revitalization Initiative that will also support creation of an elderly care facility in the old industrial building, that was built in the early 20th Century.

BU opted to re-purpose the old six-story building rather than tear it down and is converting the brick structure into the home of modern classrooms, a clinical laboratory and research facility.

The building is located near the new Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The renovation of the Corliss Avenue nursing complex is slated to be completed in August of 2020.
