More than 1,000 Broome County NYSEG customers were without power on Thursday afternoon.

According to the utility's website, 1,040 customers in the city of Binghamton had no electricity around 3 p.m.

NYSEG spokesman Bob Pass said two circuits were reported out at the Noyes Island substation, located on Eldredge Street.

Several traffic signals along Main Street in Binghamton were knocked out of service by the power disruption. Some downtown traffic signals also were not operational.

City police officers were sent to direct traffic at some of the busiest intersections.

Power at the 15-story high-rise at 100 Chenango Place reportedly was off. That 144-unit building has been undergoing renovations in recent months.

In a separate outage, about 20 NYSEG customers in the Town of Union lost electricity earlier in the afternoon. The affected customers were in the area of Taft Avenue.
