Binghamton Traffic Restrictions Due to Demolition
Some street closures are being implemented in downtown Binghamton as preparations are made for the demolition of the Collier Street parking garage.
City officials say the traffic restrictions are expected to be in effect for about two weeks.
Collier Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic. The sidewalk next to the courthouse will remain open.
On Hawley Street, the westbound lane between Exchange and State streets will be open for local traffic only. The eastbound lane will remain open.
On State Street, the northbound lane between Hawley and Court streets will be closed. The sidewalk from Hawley Street to the Grand Royale Hotel will be closed.
Asbestos remediation work is underway at the doomed structure. The demolition work is scheduled to start on Monday.
