While most of New York state experienced employment gains over the last 12 months, the Binghamton labor market lost hundreds of jobs.

The latest report from the state Department of Labor showed the Binghamton region had a net loss of 600 non-farm jobs over the past year.

The report released Thursday indicated the combined private sector and government workforce in the labor market fell by 0.6 percent.

The Elmira region was the only other metro area in New York that recorded a loss over the last 12 months. Elmira lost 200 non-farm jobs for the period, reflecting a loss of 0.5 percent.

Every other labor market in the state showed job gains from September 2017 to September 2018. The report showed New York's non-farm jobs increased by 109,600 over the year.

While Binghamton and Elmira were losing jobs, the Ithaca market was posting gains. Ithaca experienced a net increase in non-farm employment with a gain of 1,200 jobs.
