A man sustained a head injury when he was assaulted near the South Washington Street bridge in Binghamton.

A Conklin Avenue resident called police around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday when he heard the man screaming for help following the attack.

Fire department medics and an ambulance crew evaluated the man next to Indulgence Salon at 14 Conklin Avenue. Blood was visible on the face and chest of the man, who was standing as he was being assisted. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

A city police dog was called to try to track at least one suspect who ran from the area after the assault.

The South Side incident was one of several high priority calls that kept Binghamton police patrol officers and detectives busy Wednesday evening.
