Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting incident in downtown Binghamton.

Authorities say 25-year-old Shaquell Heyliger of Pennsylvania Avenue faces two felony charges following a three-month investigation.

Heyliger was taken into custody around 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the First Ward. Detectives say he was located in the area of 175 Clinton Street.

Investigators say Heyliger is suspected of firing firing shots from a 9-millimeter handgun near 109 Susquehanna Street about 9:30 p.m. July 29.

The shots were fired following a disturbance near Susquehanna and Carroll streets.

Detectives say witnesses were uncooperative as they tried to determine what had happened.

Heyliger has been charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Heyliger was booked at Binghamton police headquarters and was being held in the downtown lockup pending arraignment in city court.
