Investigators have located the remains of a Broome County resident who vanished nearly three years ago.

Authorities on Wednesday afternoon revealed the body of James Andrews was found on a property in Silver Lake township, Pennsylvania.

Andrews had lived at 19 Gregory Lane in Binghamton's First Ward. He was 73 years old when he was last seen outside his residence in early August 2019. He was reported missing a couple of weeks after he was last spotted in his neighborhood.

In a news release, Binghamton police said city detectives along with FBI agents from Albany and Philadelphia found the remains of Andrews on Friday "after information was developed during the ongoing investigation."

City police detective Captain Cory Minor declined to elaborate on the developments that led to locating the missing man's body or whether the remains were discovered inside a building or outdoors.

According to police, the owners of the Silver Lake property were cooperative and were not aware that the body was there.

Investigators previously had said Andrews suffered from health issues and had not been reported missing in the past.

A $1,000 reward had been posted by Binghamton police for information in the case. Minor would not say whether the reward offer was a factor in finding the man's body.

Police now are treating the case as a homicide investigation. People with information may contact Binghamton detectives at (607) 772-7080.
