Binghamton Bridge Closed for Hours After Crash

A bridge to Binghamton's South Side was shut down for several hours following a crash in which a vehicle slammed into a utility pole.

A car reportedly slammed into the NYSEG pole on Tompkins Street shortly before 4 a.m. Wednesday.

The crash resulted in the closure of the Tompkins Street bridge until utility workers replaced a pole just north of Webster Street.

Initial reports indicated the driver involved in the crash had not been seriously hurt. No information was available from police as to whether any tickets were to be issued.

A New York State Department of Transportation crew set up cones and a directional arrow to guide motorists around the bridge while NYSEG workers were at the scene.

The bridge reopened to traffic shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday.
