Plans for the development of a wind farm in the Windsor area are up for discussion.

A public presentation on the proposed 124-megawatt Blue Stone Wind Farm is scheduled for 2 p.m. January 29 with a public comment session at 3 p.m.and another presentation at 6 p.m. at the Windsor Community House.

The plans call for 33 turbines to be installed at sites in Sanford and Windsor by Calpine Energy of Houston, Texas.

Final project cost estimates have not been provided.  Development of the wind farm sites will also include access roads and transmission facilities.

January 15 in his State of the State address, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) announced plans to make the state 100% dependent on renewable energy by 2040.

The previous goal had been to have 50% of the state’s energy needs met by renewable sources like wind, hydroelectric, nuclear or solar power by 2030.  Officials now say the state can be at 75% by that date as New York rushes to entirely renewable energy to reduce climate change.

The Governor’s new goals still need legislative approval in Albany.
