Science has proven that volunteering or helping others in some way has many health benefits. Personally, I think it's good for mental well being too.

February's Everyday Hero was a 9 year old, who chose to shave his head to raise money for pediatric cancer research. That is sacrifice! Are you ready to sacrifice? You don't necessarily have to shave your head, but a little effort is involved.

The first place to start is think about how you want to help someone. Here are some ideas:

1. You can drive someone to medical or cancer fighting appointments.

2. You can volunteer to deliver meals to shut ins.

3. You can call 211 and see what is available to do.

4. You can take a subject close to your heart and work with it to help others.

5. Help a soldier, who has returned home, get back into "life". There are many different ways!

6. Lend a hand to a neighbor who is unable to tend to their yard or shovel snow.

These are just some ideas. Another is to donate blood. The supplies are critically low and you can save a life by giving. See our events page here for times and locations of drives.

Let us know how you decided t be an everyday hero! Just add a comment below. Thanks for helping.
