Binghamton’s baseball team has been named a beneficiary in a long-time fan’s will.

The estate of Marion O’Connor is donating $195,159 to the City of Binghamton for maintenance, repairs, special projects and general expenses at NYSEG Stadium, home of the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

Binghamton Mayor Richard David called the donation “unprecedented.”

Marion O’Connor died in December of last year at the age of 72 and requested that funds from her estate be set aside for the Binghamton ball park.

O’Connor was a regular at baseball games, attending with her brother.

The City plans to target the concession area which has not been renovated since the stadium opened in 1992.

In addition, the Rumble Ponies will install new safety netting along the first and third base lines.

The team plans to host a Big Brother/Big Sister Day at NYSEG Stadium in the next season to honor O’Connor.
