Happy National Pet Day! It's about time we had a day for our furry friends, right? Well, I guess, I should clarify that not all pets are furry.

The word 'Pet' means different things to different people. I've had many pets in my lifetime, including dogs, a couple of birds, a guinea pig, cats, and fish. I may have had a turtle when I was younger, but that was so long ago, I can't remember for sure.

People have every kind of critter as pets. Most legal, some not so legal. Currently, I have dogs, a cat and some fish (plus a few uninvited mice in the house.) While I don't have a real issue with most animals, or creatures, there is one at the top of my 'no thank you' list, and that is a snake. Snakes scare the hell out of me, and that's the end of that story.

For the past couple of decades, I've been adopting Greyhounds. I never thought much about them until I was introduced to one. I was hooked from the start. First, to rescue a Greyhound is an honor for me, and I never imagined how attached I would become to these magnificent creatures. For a while, I even fostered Greyhounds.

Presently, I have one Greyhound, and one guy who looks like a baby Greyhound but is actually a mix of a Whippet and Italian Greyhound. At least that's what I think he is. My Greyhound is calm and basically a couch potato, and the little guy is basically a crazy wound up dog. I call him the 'Kraken' after the monster in the Pirates of the Caribbean' movies.

Give your pet a hug today (unless it's a snake...ugh) and wish him and/or her a happy pat day!
