Binghamton Police have arrested a suspect in the hit-and-run investigation into the death of Binghamton University student Stefani Lineva.  At a press conference at Binghamton City Hall this afternoon Binghamton Mayor Richard David and Chief of Police Joseph T. Zikuski announced that 26 year-old Aizaz A. Siddiqui of Binghamton has been charged with Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident Resulting in Death, a violation of section 600, subsections 2(c) of the Vehicle & Traffic Law of New York State, a Class D Felony.

Siddiqui has been arraigned this (Thursday) afternoon in Binghamton City Court. Chief Zikuski said there was no evidence that Siddiqui was driving under the influence.  Police do, however believe Lineva had been drinking prior to the accident.  Zikuski said the area on Route 434 near the Pennsylvania Avenue exit where Lineva was found is not a usual pedestrian walking or crossing area although students do use that area to walk back to school.

Lineva did not have her wallet or cellphone with her.  They were located on the West Side of Binghamton and police believe she had lost both items earlier that night. The investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Binghamton Detective Bureau at 607-772-7080.
