Sheriff David Harder said Anderson and Tercero both visited the jail in the town of Dickinson for a "shadow program" to observe operations in the medical unit.

Harder said records indicate the two students were at the jail briefly at different times.

The 22-year-old Tercero is being charged with second-degree murder in Anderson's death. Her body was found in Tercero's apartment on Oak Street in Binghamton on March 9.

Tercero is being held in Nicaragua. He could wind up back at Broome County Jail if he is sent back to the United States to face the murder count.

Authorities have said Anderson's death was the result of strangulation.
