The days are numbered for the "original" Nirchi's Pizza location on Endicott's North Side.

The shop at 811 Pine Street will be closed as of Monday for "restructuring."

Company owner Patricia Nirchi said family members had been discussing the future of the store in recent weeks and ultimately decided to shut the place down.

The operation opened in 1967 as a small deli. To distinguish the business from other nearby shops, it started selling pizza by the slice.

The family worked to maintain the original atmosphere by serving only pizza and cold subs, while still operating a small Italian grocery store.

Although the Pine Street location will be closing, the six other franchised Nirchi's stores in Broome County will continue to operate.

Patricia Nirchi said the original store is "very sentimental to me." She said it's possible the location could reopen at some point in the future but, she said, she can't promise that will happen.
