Amazon Orders First Drama Pilot ‘Bosch’ from Michael Connelly Cop Novels

Amazon Pilot Bosch Michael Connelly
Amazon / Little, Brown and Company

Amazon proved rather conservative in its initial selection of fan-rated pilots to take to series, choosing only 5 of 17 available offerings to move forward, all either comedies or children’s shows. Now, the streaming service has decided to move forward with a pilot production of its first original drama ‘Bosch,’ based on the Michael Connelly homicide detective novels.

Deadline first broke the news of the pilot’s production, which will be written by Connelly himself and ‘Treme‘ co-creator and executive producer Eric Overmeyer. The two will also executive produce along with Fabrik’s Henrik Bastin and Mikkel Bondesen. Based on Connelly’s 20+ novel series dating back to 1992, ‘Bosch’ follows veteran police homicide detective Harry Bosch as he navigates the turbulent landscape of the Los Angeles Police Department.

If taken to series, ‘Bosch’ would join Amazon’s original series lineup of political comedy ‘Alpha House,’ the Silicon Valley-spoofing ‘Betas,’ as well as children’s series ‘Annebots,’ ‘Creative Galaxy’ and ‘Tumbleleaf.’ Of course, brand recognition may prove little in the way of picking up the drama to series, considering Amazon passed on the ‘Zombieland‘ TV series following less-than-favorable reviews of the pilot.

What say you? Would you be interested to see Amazon make its first leap into original dramas with such a recognized literary series? Tell us if you’ll check out ‘Bosch’ when Amazon announces its plans to unveil the pilot!
