‘Alice’s Restaurant Massacree’ Airs on Thanksgiving Day
I've lost count the number of years 99.1 The Whale has aired 'Alice's Restaurant Massacree' by Arlo Guthrie on Thanksgiving Day. I think it's been about 30 years, and we're not about to end that tradition.
The song came out in 1967 from the 'Alice's Restaurant' album. Arlo wrote the song based on one of his life's experiences which happened in 1965 on Thanksgiving Day.
Alice in the song is Alice M. Brock from Massachusetts. She did own a restaurant, but the Thanksgiving dinners mentioned in the song were actually held in a converted church that Alice and her husband had purchased before they owned the restaurant.
So, for 18 minutes and 12 seconds, enjoy 'Alice's Restaurant Massacree' on 99.1 The Whale Thanksgiving Day at around 7:15am, 12:15pm and 6:15pm. It's our Whale Family Thanksgiving tradition to you.
Happy Thanksgiving!
