New York State Senator Fred Akshar is saying “Thanks. But not right now” to possibly running for Lieutenant Governor on the Republican ticket of gubernatorial candidate Marc Molinaro.

The Binghamton Republican, one of the newest Senators in Albany, says he is honored to have been considered but believes he can do the most good by continuing to represent the 52nd district.

Akshar was elected nearly three years ago and is running, unopposed for another term. If he were to join the Molinaro ticket, he would not be able to seek reelection to the 52 district.

In a statement from his office, Akshar supports Molinaro saying: “I’m fully confident that New Yorkers from every corner of the state will embrace Marc’s passion, work ethic and integrity as the qualities needed to lead (the) state.”
