One of the best comedians of the 1990's - early 2000's would have turned 48 yesterday, so, to commemorate this, one fan left a pretty cool tribute to Mitch Hedberg on his gravestone.

The tribute was referring to one of Hedberg's well-known jokes:

Back in 2005, the comedy world lost a great when Mitch Hedberg was found dead in a New Jersey hotel room after overdosing on heroin and cocaine. He was well known for his unique, almost deadpan delivery and one-liner jokes.

Here are a couple of my favorites:

  • "An escalator can never break, it can only become stairs."
  • "I don't have a girlfriend, I just know a girl who would get really mad if she heard me say that."
  • "Last weekend I helped my friend stay put. It's a lot easier than helping someone to move. I just hung around his place to make sure he didn't start loading stuff into a truck.

"I bought a doughnut and they gave me a receipt for the doughnut. I don’t need a receipt for the doughnut. I’ll just give you the money, and you give me the doughnut. End of transaction. We don’t need to bring ink and paper into this. I just can’t imagine a scenario where I would have to prove that I bought a doughnut. Some skeptical friend: “Don’t even act like I didn’t get that doughnut! I got the documentation right here. Oh, wait it’s at home. In the file. Under 'D'." -Mitch Hedberg
