Hashtags. They're everywhere these days. At the risk of sounding like I'm ancient, I remember that back in the day when a person saw this symbol: # they referred to it as a "pound sign" or a "number sign." If someone had told me when I was a teenager that the day would come that I wouldn't use it for those things, but instead would use it to create a searchable term to be used on a website or social network, I'd have scratched my head and asked, "what's a social network?"

If you've ever wondered why people have jumped on the hashtag bandwagon and what the purpose of using them is, this should clear up your questions. When someone clicks on a hashtag, it goes to the stream of content containing that hashtag. In other words, it helps people find things on Instagram, Facebook, and other social sites by topic instead of having to scroll through endless status updates, photos, or tweets to find what you're looking for. And are you ready for this? In 2018, the hashtag as we know it today turned eight-years-old. The concept of the modern hashtags was introduced by Twitter in 2010 when they introduced Trending Topics.

We thought that it would be fun to come up with some hashtags that only people from the Southern Tier would understand, so take a peek and then let us know what you'd add to our list!
