The alligator was captured Monday afternoon in Whitney Point in an area behind the county fairgrounds. The 15-pound alligator was reported to be about 45 inches long.

It was found about one-quarter mile north of the spot where a smaller alligator was tracked down by Department of Environmental Conservation workers on July 29.

A statement released by Animal Adventure Park said the second captured alligator will be joining the first as a permanent resident at the Harpursville facility.

The new arrival will be quarantined for about ten days before being placed on exhibit.

After the first alligator was found, some people in the Whitney Point area suggested it wasn’t the same one that had been pictured online. They said the reptile captured looked different than what the state workers had capture
