First of all, thank you for participating with votes. The Whale Bowl of Rock-n-Roll doesn't work without Whale Listeners calling in and voting!

On Thursday, we finished up the Opening Round battles. Without too many wacky references, (see Thursday's blog about Day One), we began the battles in the morning with Doug Mosher, pitting Styx against The Who. It was a close battle with The Who victorious.

Next up - Neil Young and Ted Nugent. Neil has done well in past years, but this year voters decided it was 'Nug Time' and moved Ted to the next round. Ozzy Osbourne and Queen went head to head next. This battle was one of the closest so far. In the end,  Queen was the victor by a mere two votes.

In the 'odd pairing' match, John Mellencamp was lined up against Led Zeppelin (great pairing there, Doug Mosher!) We all love JCM, but he's no match against the might of Zepp. The 16th and last battle of Round One between Cheap Trick and The Eagles was a blow-out in favor of Don Henley and crew.

Onward to the 'Classic Rockin' 16 Round.' Thursday afternoon parings included The Beatles and ZZ Top. Lots of fans voted for The Beatles, but more ZZ Top fans called in. Pink Floyd continues to carry on, hoping to defend their 2014 Championship title with a convincing win over Rush. The Aerosmith and Creedence Clearwater Revival battle may have seemed like it would favor Steven Tyler's crew over John Fogerty and band, but remember, CCR has done well in past years, even winning the championship over perennial powerhouse, Lynyrd Skynyrd by 2 votes in 2009. So, it was no surprise to us, that they took the battle over Aerosmith.

As we continued with the 'Classic Rockin' 16 Round', Tom Petty's Heartbreakers were looking to derail the boys from Australia, AC/DC. Tom has managed to get to the championship round many time in the past, but as the saying goes, 'always a bridesmaid, never the bride', and I predicted they wouldn't even get near the alter this year, after the can of whoop ass AC/DC was about to deal the Heartbreakers. Wrong. That can was delivered to AC/DC, with Petty fans out in full force on the Whale Lines in the blowout.

That reminds me, don't assume your favorites will cruise through without your vote, 'cause crazy things can happen, and do! To round out the day, it was the ladies of Heart showing that they can rock as much or better than any other,  including their next foe, Lynyrd Skynyrd. The result was not in favor of Ann and Nancy though, as the Skynyrd Nation voted a lot, and recorded another blow out.

Day 3 has begun with hourly battles left for the 'Classic Rock 16', 'Final 8', Big 4' and 'Championship' Rounds. By the way, the Championship Round will begin around 5:40pm. Call in your votes today, and maybe your favorite Classic Rocker will reach the final round! Listen to 99.1 The Whale for times to call in at 607-723-9996.
