Authorities say 20 people were killed following a collision involving a stretch limousine and another vehicle in the town of Schoharie.

New York State Police say the crash was reported around 1:55 p.m. Saturday.

It happened at the intersection of Route 30 and Route 30A, a short distance southeast of Interstate 88's Exit 23. The scene is about 100 miles from Binghamton.

State Police first deputy superintendent Christopher Fiore said 18 people in the limo and two pedestrians were killed.

Fiore said the driver and all 17 passengers in the 2001 Ford Excursion limousine died.

Investigators believe the limo was traveling southwest on Route 30 when it went through a stop sign at the intersection with Route 30A.

The limousine struck an unoccupied 2015 Toyota Highlander that was parked outside the Apple Barrel Country Store and Cafe. Two people who were in the parking lot were struck.

During a news conference Sunday afternoon, Fiore said all of those who died were adults. He said the bodies had been transported to Albany Medical Center for autopsies.

Fiore declined to release the names of those who were killed because notifications of relatives were still being made. He would not say where the limo was traveling from or where it was heading.

Investigators from the state police and the National Transportation Safety Board were at the scene.

Relatives of those involved in the crash may contact state police using a special telephone line. The number is 877.672.4911.

The Apple Barrel's Facebook page indicated the business was open on Sunday. The message said: "We are a big family at the Apple Barrel, and part of the bigger family of Schoharie. We cope by being together. And that is why we are open."
