120+ Businesses Offer Discounts to Local Veterans

I've always said that Veterans in the United States of America deserve to be treated like royalty.  While there is much more that we can do as a country to show our appreciation every day, it's nice when your hometown takes it a step in the right direction.

I'm surprised by the number of Broome County residents that are not aware of the discounts offered by the Veterans Discount Program.

The Veterans Discount Program is free to all veterans living in Broome County and includes discounts at about 120+ local businesses. The list is always growing, so keep checking gobroomecounty.com for the most up-to-date list for veterans to save.

Honorably discharged Veterans of the U.S. armed forces can obtain the card by applying at the Office of the County Clerk and presenting their discharge papers. Many veterans have their discharge on file at the County Clerk’s Office already. The application process takes about ten minutes and cards are issued the same day as a complete application is submitted.

When you go apply for your card, here are a few things you need to know:

• Identification Cards (photo ID) are issued to Veterans discharged under honorable
  conditions at no fee by the Broome County Security Department once military
  discharge paperwork (DD214) is filed or shown to the Broome County Clerk at the County Office Building on Hawley Street in downtown Binghamton.
• If a Veteran cannot locate his/her military discharge (DD214), please contact the
  Broome County Veterans Service Agency at 607-778-2147 to assist.
• Veteran/Cardholder must present the Broome County Veteran ID card at participating business to receive the discount.
• Discount is available to the Veteran cardholder only. Card is not transferable.
